AMANCIO…Two Faces on a Tombstone

A documentary film | DVD | 64 minutes | Q&A afterward

Authorized by The Amancio Project in association with Downtown Loft Studio and Compass, Inc.

As a young boy, Amancio Corrales immigrated from Mexico to Yuma, Arizona, with his parents in search of a better life. Gay and Hispanic, Amancio dreamed of one day being a performer in Las Vegas, but his dream was cut short on May 6, 2005 when Amancio’s body was found floating in the Colorado River near Yuma. He had been brutally beaten and stabbed.  He was just 23 years old.

For the first time, the story of local activist Michael Baughman’s journey to seek justice for the murder on behalf of Amancio’s family and friends is revealed in this intriguing, sometimes sad documentary. It's also a story of persistence in the face of of a community that does not wish to address delicate issues.

Bullied: A Student, a School and a Case that made History

A Documentary Film | DVD | Grades 9 to 12 | 40 minutes | Q&A Afterward

Authorized by Teaching Tolerance and The Sothern Poverty Law Center

Includes two student anonymous awareness projects

Bullied is endorsed by the National Education Association (NEA).

Bullied chronicles one student’s ordeal at the hands of anti-gay bullies and offers an inspiring message of hope to those fighting harassment today. It can become a cornerstone of anti-bullying efforts in middle and high schools.

Bullied is also designed to help administrators, teachers and counselors create a safe school environment for all students, not just those who are gay and lesbian. It is also intended to help all students understand the terrible tool bullying can take on its victims, and to encourage students to stand up for their classmates who are being harassed.

Out in the Silence: Love, hate and a quest for change in small town America

A Documentary Film | DVD | 65 minutes | Q&A Afterward

Authorized by The Out in the Silence Project, OTIS and the ACLU-AZ

Out in the Silence captures the remarkable chain of events that unfold when the announcement of filmmaker Joe Wilson’s wedding to another man ignites a firestorm of controversy in his small Pennsylvania hometown.

Drawn back by a plea for help from the mother of a gay teen being tormented at school, Wilson’s journey dramatically illustrates the universal challenges of being an outsider in a conservative environment and the transformation that is possible when those who have long been constrained by a traditional code of silence summon the courage to break it.

For The Bible Tells Me So

A Documentary Film | DVD | 98 minutes | Q&A Afterward

Authorized by the For The Bible Tells Me So Project in association with The Amancio Project

Can the love between two people ever be an abomination? Is the chasm separating gays and lesbians and Christianity too wide to cross? Is the Bible an excuse to hate?

Through the experiences of five very normal, very Christian, very American families -- including those of former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson -- we discover how insightful people of faith handle the realization of having a gay child. Informed by such respected voices as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard's Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve Greenberg and Reverend Jimmy Creech, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity.
